Yesterday we saw the future! Singapore has so much money that they trim, prune, sweep, manicure, and build everything. If they want it, it gets done, immediately. The government has stopped ripping down all the colonial structure so tourists like us can see the past. There are walkways, malls, ice rinks, casinos, harbors, all incredibly clean, shiny with sculptures and soaring architecture. Now the photos.
First, we saw Fort Canning Park, the old English stronghold.
Ladies from a Moslem wedding. When they saw us taking pictures, they invited the four of us to the wedding and the reception. But we were on a roll by then and couldn’t wait for the bride.
The government is serious about crime here, they shoot people. We did chew gum but we had our passports with us to prove we were foreigners.
Found an India temple, seen a lot of them.
Then we went to the colonial part of the city, really impressive buildings. First the old ones.
Then the river and a cafe.
Some statues to represent the old life of the port.
The old customs house now a grand hotel where Clinton stayed…and we didn’t.
The last is the hotel casino built by Sheldon Addelson. Tom’s turn.
