We have just spent three marvelous days exploring the city of Toulouse with Claire who lived here for a year thirty years ago and her friend, Catherine, who lives here now with her husband Phillipe. We have seen churches, monuments, been shopping, to a restaurant where the chef won TOP CHEF from the TV show. We have walked the canal and the river. One day we spent in a cave, Niaux, an hour from Toulouse, up in a mountain that had cave paintings dating from 13,000 BC. This cave is one of the few that that still allows people to go in to see the actual paintings. We only had twenty minutes with them after a kilometer fast walk up and down slippery slopes, squeezing past narrow openings. But they were magical, on Tom’s bucket list for sure. I was not allowed to take photos so I took pictures of the posters, but they were huge and so finely done…amazing.
Then it was on to Carcassone where the walled city has been repaired and filled with shops. We had our tea and sped back to Toulouse for a duck dinner prepared by Catherine who is a marvelous cook.
Today it was churches and roaming the streets. Found a great shop that sold wonderful cognac. Bought a bottle for our host.
